Well, Hello readers!!!
Another year of dusting off blog cobwebs, abruptly saying hello, finding my voice again, and caring enough to type it all out.
2018 here I come!!!
(slight digression early in the post before I even begin…even if no one reads. even if no one ever reads. A blog is blog for me… right?)
Eh! To the point…
2017–the year of a complicated birth, a kindergartner, a freshman, a new business, a Confirmation (or 3) a home project (or 2), and the completion of my first real Bible study!! 2017 you were pretty good!!!
New Year’s Eve, we didn’t do a lot, but we did do some of the Buckley traditions: International cuisine, Twilight Zone, Ball Drop waiting, troll FB for hours still waiting for the Ball Drop. Get disgusted by how naked the performers are. Troll some more…
But then Jen Fulwiler started us with these new traditions:
Saint of the Year What a cool idea!! So she coded this generator doohickey thingy that randomly selects from a database a saint to whom you can have as your patron saint of the year. Everyone’s was cool and exciting but I can’t tell a lie was, mine was, ahem, boring and totally uninspiring. Seriously, I feel very offensive to even mutter such words, but alas, it’s true; I have even forgotten her name (shame on me). I know she was a “Blessed” but, really, it’s cool. I am not going to hinge my own desire for sainthood on the fact that I got a less than inspiring one for the year 2018. We just didn’t gel. Enough said…
My Word of the Year on the other hand was pretty cool and totally inspiring, and so–I AM PUMPED!! Because SWEAT was my word. This has so many coincidences that I just want to run with it–and by run, I mean actually hit the pavement and run…and bike…and swim.
It’s been quite a few years since I’ve done a triathlon.
I first started doing them after the death of my first husband. They were therapeutic in the grieving process. But after many years, they grew on me. I LOVED THEM!! For the first time in my life, I was a real athlete–crossing finish lines; gulping down GU packets; and sporting my bib number on my thigh days after my race were all very gratifying.
But then, the babies came… I remarried and began a new beautiful chapter. We’ve had 5 kiddos in 7 years (8 in total) and phew I’m exhausted!! Speaking of SWEAT!!
But little by little, I am getting that urge to race again. It will look different and feel different, cause I ain’t any younger, but it’s a cool feeling to complete one and by gosh I am going to SWEAT my butt off to train these next 6 months!!
SWEAT has other connotations for me this year as well. It has to do with continuing the work of Grace & Grit Design Co.
I opened up my online and traveling faith-inspired boutique Sept. 23 and it’s been a such an exhilarating ride. I’ve learned so much. Met soo many wonderful new people. And I am pumped to SWEAT even harder this next year to take my store to the next level.
I am also realizing that cool coincidence that my company’s name “GRIT” has a very similar feeling to “SWEAT.” It’s about getting done what you need to get done (what God also need’s you to get done) and relying on God’s grace to pull you to the finish line!!
So SWEAT it is for 2018!! See you at the finish line!!
What’s your Word of the Year?
